Timber is usually cheaper to buy and can be sanded and re-oiled, but it needs regular maintenance. Composite usually costs more and needs less upkeep, but it has its own subframe and fixing rules, including expansion gaps. We fit both and will talk through the options for your space at the survey.

A ground-level deck usually doesn't. A raised deck more than 30 cm above the ground may need planning permission; check with your council. Flats, maisonettes, listed buildings and conservation areas have different rules.

Typically 2–5 days for most gardens — confirmed after survey. Raised decks, balustrades, steps and difficult access put a job at the longer end of that range.
