The job · 4 stages
What we did
This roof was built on new blockwork walls, around a steel frame. The seven photos are in the order the work was done.
First the steel: raking beams and a beam along the top in red primer, bolted together and numbered for assembly, standing over the blockwork. Then the timber: a wall plate along the top of the blocks, rafters fixed against the steels, and purlins and collars tying the two slopes together. Timber studs frame the openings for the windows within the roof.
The last two photos show the corners and the finished frame. Where two slopes meet, a hip rafter runs down from the ridge and the short jack rafters are cut to fit against it; in the final photo every rafter is in and the framing around the windows is boarded, ready for the roof to be covered.

Stage 01 / 04
Steel frame over blockwork
New blockwork walls are up, and a steel frame in red primer stands over them. The members are numbered for assembly; timber for the roof is stacked on the deck.
Stage 02 / 04
Rafters fixed to the steels
A timber wall plate runs along the top of the blockwork, and the first rafters go up against the raking steels and the steel beam at the top.
Stage 03 / 04
Purlins, collars and window openings
Inside the new roof — rafters, purlins and collars tie the slopes together, and timber studs frame the openings for the windows.
Stage 04 / 04
Hips, ridge and the full roof
At the corners, short jack rafters are cut to meet the hip rafters. Then the whole slope is framed, with the timber around the windows boarded.
